Measuring a cat for a bed, in centimetres and inches
A bed that is too small gets ignored and a bed that is too large feels exposed. Measuring takes a minute and saves a return.
Measure the sleeping curl
Wait until the cat is asleep and measure the width of the curled shape, nose to tail base, with a soft tape. Add roughly a hand's width so the cat can turn over without spilling over the rim.
The rope basket comes in 35, 40 and 46 centimetre sizes, which covers most single cats up to a large tom.
Sizing for a covered bed
Covered beds need a little more room because the walls take up space. The cocoon beds run from 40 centimetres, which suits a pet up to about 2.6 kilograms, through to 100 centimetres for two cats or a small dog.
If your cat sits between two sizes, take the larger one. A cave that is slightly too big is still used; one that is too tight is not.
Two cats, one bed
Cats that already sleep touching can share, but they need a bed wide enough for both to lie full length. Two 46 centimetre baskets side by side usually work better than one large cave, because either cat can leave without waking the other.
